My name is Adam Azari, I have a Master’s in Philosophy from Tel Aviv University, and for the past few years I’ve been living in Warsaw with my wife and daughter.
My biggest professional achievement to date has been creating and running an initiative to raise money for effective life-saving charities working in the developing world (distributing malaria nets, vitamin A supplements, and vaccines). This initiative has raised enough to protect many thousands of people from malaria, prevent a lot of them from falling ill, and save quite a few lives.
Prior to that, I worked as an editor, an English teacher, and a caretaker for mentally disabled people. I also have a strong background in classical music, which informs a lot of my thinking about skill acquisition and teaching.
My Experience with reading Instruction
My intense interest in reading instruction started with my personal experience teaching my daughter to read fluently—in both Polish and English—by the time she was four.
While I’m not a reading researcher myself, I see it as my mission to inform parents about the wealth of solid, helpful research on reading and early language development and to help them figure out how to incorporate the most important widely-accepted recommendations into their lives.
I also have a lot of practical suggestions of my own for parents who would like to teach their kids reading at different levels, or who would just like to create a fun, healthy language-rich environment and make reading a big part of their lives.
I believe there is a lot that parents can learn from our story and from the research that informed it, and I hope to inspire parents to become curious and enthusiastic about their kids’ reading development.
